Location: Toronto

Employer: The Architect Builders Collaborative.

Project: Presented, with colleague Allison Evans, recommendations to the City of Toronto Planning department.

A 600 sq/f garden suite design with acompanying sustainability report to guide new bylaw decisions. The design compared 4 energy standards: OBC SB12 minimum, EnergyStar, Net Zero Ready & Passivehouse to help determin which would offer the highest environmental and monetary give-back for our evolving built environement. For a building of this size and intent we recommend applying a Net Zero Ready design and advise against EnergyStar - see links to the report below for future explaination.

The garden suite's design delivers a 1-2 person, one bedroom, one bathroom, single-storey dwelling which can also cater to those seeking accessibility accommodations (see appendix B for drawings). Keeping the design to one bedroom provides the occupant with as much breathing space as possible to address human emotional and mental well-being. Additionally, I have leant into the beautiful yet functional nature of the Mid Century Modern style to create a space that feels curated and meaningful throughout.
